Training activity licensing and university accreditation are different

A training activity license and university accreditation are not the same thing.

A training activity license or authorization permits an institution to conduct the activity covered by that authorization under the applicable regulatory framework.

University accreditation relates to higher education institutions, programs and academic degrees governed by the higher education framework.

An institution’s not being subject to university accreditation does not automatically mean that it operates without a license. Likewise, a training authorization does not make an institution a university or authorize it to award university degrees.

The licensed activity, the type of certificate or qualification and the issuer of each should be checked separately.

How does a training center differ from a higher education institution?

Professional training institutions differ from universities and higher education institutions in their activity, regulatory framework and the qualifications or certificates they may provide.

The use of a word such as “academy” or “institute” in an institution’s name is not enough to establish its legal category or powers.

The actual license or authorization covering the activity should be reviewed.

How can a training institution’s authorization be checked?

Where available, these details should be checked against official documents or the issuing body’s official communication channels.
